Odisha High Court Recruitment syllabus
I. Preliminary Examination (Qualifying) – 150 Marks, 2 Hours
The Preliminary Examination serves as the initial screening phase and is designed to test candidates on a broad range of subjects. It comprises 160 Objective Type Questions with Multiple Choice Answers covering the following areas:
- General English: Testing comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and usage.
- General Knowledge: Covering current events, history, geography, and other general awareness topics.
- Logical Reasoning: Evaluating logical thinking, pattern recognition, and problem-solving skills.
- Quantitative Aptitude: Assessing mathematical ability, including arithmetic, algebra, and basic statistics.
Scoring & Qualification:
- To qualify for the next stage, candidates must score:
- At least 33% for SC/ST candidates.
- At least 40% for candidates from other categories.
- The court may limit the number of candidates proceeding to the next stage based on performance, and in such cases, the cutoff marks for qualification may be adjusted accordingly.
II. Language Test (Qualifying) – 100 Marks, 2 Hours
The Language Test evaluates proficiency in both English and Odia, focusing on writing and translation skills. It is structured as follows:
- Essay in English (300 words): 30 marks
- Précis Writing: 20 marks
- Translation from English to Odia: 20 marks
- Translation from Odia to English: 20 marks
- English Grammar: 10 marks
Scoring & Qualification:
- To proceed to the next stage, candidates must achieve:
- A minimum of 33% for SC/ST candidates.
- A minimum of 45% for candidates from other categories.
- Importantly, the scores obtained in the Language Test will not be considered when calculating the final merit list.
III. Computer Application Test (Qualifying) – 100 Marks
This stage assesses the candidate’s computer proficiency and is divided into two parts:
- Theory Test: 50 Marks, 30 Minutes
- Covers general computer knowledge, focusing on MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), MS Access, internet operations, and file management.
- Skill Test: 50 Marks, 30 Minutes
- Practical tests involving tasks like document creation, spreadsheet manipulation, presentation design, and internet-related activities such as uploading and downloading files.
Scoring & Qualification:
- Candidates must secure 50% or more to qualify for the Main Written Examination.
- Similar to the Language Test, marks from this stage do not contribute to the final merit list.
IV. Main Written Examination (Typewriting Test in English) – 100 Marks, 10 Minutes
This test evaluates the candidate’s typing speed and accuracy in English. The specifics are:
- Test Format:
- Candidates are required to type approximately 400 words from a printed passage within 10 minutes.
- A speed of 40 words per minute is expected.
- Assessment:
- Accuracy: 1 mark will be deducted for each mistake, including typing errors and omitted words.
- Disqualification: Candidates with more than 20 mistakes in their typed script will be disqualified from the process.
V. Viva-Voce – 20 Marks
The Viva-Voce, or oral interview, is the final stage of the recruitment process. It assesses the candidate’s personality, communication skills, and overall suitability for the role.
Scoring & Final Merit List:
- The marks obtained in the Viva-Voce will be added to those obtained in the Main Written Examination (Typewriting Test in English) to form the total score.
- A candidate must secure a minimum of 40% in the Viva-Voce to be included in the final merit list.
- If candidates achieve equal total marks, the tie will be resolved by:
- Comparing marks obtained in the Main Written Examination.
- If still tied, the older candidate will be ranked higher.
